What you need to know

1
All PNWU students are required to either enroll or waive

Maintaining comprehensive health insurance coverage is mandatory for all PNWU students. All students MUST be covered by an ACA-compliant domestic health insurance plan for the entire academic year, including summer and holidays.

2
You will be automatically enrolled if you do not waive coverage

If an acceptable waiver is not received by the posted waiver deadline, PNWU will finalize your enrollment in the student health insurance plan, you will no longer be eligible for a refund of the premium, and your student account will automatically be assessed the applicable premium for the term.

3
Enrolling in the PNWU Student health plan

If you wish to enroll in the student health insurance plan for the academic year, you must submit your enrollment via the 'Enroll' button at the top of this page.

4
Waiving out of the PNWU Student health plan

If you have active health insurance coverage and would like to waive the PNWU student health plan. Please submit a waiver request through the 'Waive Coverage' button at the top of this page. Once you have submitted, you will receive an email verifying if your waiver meets the PNWU requirements to waive.

5
I am 25 and on a parent's health insurance plan. I will turn 26 during this academic year. Can I still waive out of the plan for part of the year?

Students who are currently covered under the health plan of a parent but who will age out of their coverage after the waiver deadline period may use their current coverage to waive out of the student health insurance plan until their coverage terminates. Coverage will be prorated based on your enrollment dates. Please see the FAQs page for more information on submitting your updated insurance waiver or enrolling in the PNWU student plan upon turning 26.

6
Can I waive with a WA HMO or WA Medicaid during my years of clinical education?

Maybe; WA HMO/Medicaid waiver approval during clinical years varies by cohort. Please see the FAQs page for more information regarding WA HMO/Medicaid approval for your specific program.

7
Can I waive with my Kaiser Permanente HMO insurance if my home region is not Washington?

Maybe. Kaiser Permanente offers extension of coverage to certain states (CA, CO, WA, HI, DE, Washington D.C., VA, MD and GA) for some of their HMO policy holders. Please reach out to Kaiser directly to see if your HMO policy offers in-network access to routine health services while you are within WA. You will be issued a new ID card for the WA region and will need to provide this ID# to HSAC once received from Kaiser Permanente. Certain clinical students are not able to waive with an HMO policy; please see the FAQs page for more information regarding eligibility for waiving with a WA HMO as a clinical student.
