What you need to know

1
All full-time students are required to either enroll or waive

Maintaining comprehensive health insurance coverage is mandatory for all full-time CHSU students. All students MUST be covered by an ACA compliant domestic health insurance plan for the entire academic year, including summer and holidays.

2
You will be automatically enrolled if you do not waive coverage

If an acceptable waiver is not received by the posted waiver deadline, CHSU will finalize your enrollment in the student health insurance plan, you will no longer be eligible for a refund of the Fall 2024-2025 premium, and your student account will automatically be assessed the applicable Spring premium during registration for the Spring term.

3
If you are currently waived from the CHSU student plan, you do not need to resubmit your waiver.

If we cannot verify the coverage we have on file for you, you will be contacted via email from HSA Consulting, Inc. (HSAC), the CHSU Insurance Plan Administrator.

4
Enrolling in the CHSU Student health plan

If you wish to enroll in the student health insurance plan for the 2024-2025 academic year, you must submit your enrollment via the 'Enroll' button at the top of this page.

5
Waiving out of the CHSU Student health plan

If you have active health insurance coverage and would like to waive the CHSU student health plan. Please submit a waiver request through the 'Waive Coverage' button at the top of this page. Once you have submitted, you will receive an email verifying if your waiver meets the CHSU requirements to waive.

I am 25 and on a parent's health insurance plan. I will turn 26 during this academic year. Can I still waive out of the plan for part of the year?

Students who are currently covered under the health plan of a parent but who will age out of their coverage after the waiver deadline period may use their current coverage to waive out of the student health insurance plan. Approximately 30-45 days before the student's 26th birthday, our insurance administrator, HSAC, will reach out to students in this situation to determine if they wish to enroll in the student health insurance plan (at a prorated rate) or submit proof of coverage from another health insurance provider. If a student wishes to waive with coverage from another carrier, the coverage must meet all requirements set forth by CHSU and must be submitted to HSAC for verification within 30 days of termination of existing coverage. New coverage must be effective within 24 hours of your previous health insurance coverage.

3rd and 4th years Students on Clinical Rotations with Medi-Cal

3rd and 4th-year students - Students must be permanent residents in California for the entire academic year and complete all rotations in the state providing Medicaid coverage. Students planning to complete out-of-state clinical rotations/experiences may only be eligible for emergency services while out of state and may not be allowed to participate at visiting medical facilities unless they obtain different coverage. Students whose health insurance does not provide coverage in the state where the clinical rotation is located will be required to enroll in the University’s health insurance program or obtain similar health insurance as a beneficiary of a U.S. employer health insurance plan or from a marketplace plan before they begin the out-of-state rotation.
