CONTINUATION OF COVERAGE AFTER GRADUATION
This plan includes an important conversion privilege to convert your disability coverage when you begin your residency training. The conversion privilege is to an individual "special specific” disability policy. The policy is guarantee issue for all students with no medical underwriting and converts to a monthly benefit up to $4,000.
As a University of Toledo College of Medicine medical student, you have enjoyed the quality protection of the University of Toledo College of Medicine’s Student Sponsored Disability Insurance Program. Under the terms of this program, your coverage is scheduled to terminate upon graduation.
You will have a one-time enrollment period of 30 days from the policy end date to convert your coverage.
For most of you qualifying for an individual disability policy will be easy. However, each year we see 20-25% of medical students and residents denied coverage due to pre-existing health conditions. We strongly encourage you to determine your insurability prior to the deadline for converting your benefits.
